LandScape Info written by Michael Ding

  • Through my research I've realized that when people think about using landscape to build a library, they always think about "green." As if nature is a must-have for landscape for a library. In some ways I agree with that and below are some landscapes I think would be nice for a library.

  • The landscapes above are the landscapes of the public libraries in Santa Monica. Original pictures posted by Peter Gisolfi. I believe these are the type of natural landscapes we expect to find when constructing a library. It is full of "green" and brings a sense of peace and unity when at a library.
  • As much as I like nature, I don't like the fact that where there's trees and plants, there are bugs. Using pesticides aren't healthy so thats out of the question. Thus as society advance, the design of libraries should advance as well.
  • The library above is a library under construction downtown. I find this design quite intresting because of it's dome shape and a type of unique blend. We can see in the background tall buildings and skyscrapers and this dome-shaped library stands out among the bulding.
  • Makng a library stand out among other buildings that should be a key factor as well.

  • My opinion of the library near me.
  • I live near east flushing library therefore thats the library I go to most of the time.
  • I don't like how the libraries so small, and when I want a book, they normally don't have it.
  • The bulding looks very old, basically said ugly. It looks like it's from the 1900's and im sure it is. Thus making it even less attracting. It's also near the high way and you hear noises you don't want to hear.
  • The only thing I like about the library is probably that it's near and a pretty cozy place if Im going to work there.

  1. Nice work! Your comments get me thinking how could the design of a library give you the same feeling of being outdoors while inside? This might be siomething to think about.

  2. Also your comments regarding the library's proximity to the highway are very important. We definitely need to look at a variety of sound attenuation techniques. We should look applications for the exterior envelope and interior rooms.
