rubber roof
rubber roof( EPDM) is an extremely durable synthetic material widely use in low-slope buildings in the United States. rubber roofing is to prevent water leaking, prevents UV light from the sun. Rubber roofing can last up to 40 years. its made out of membranes ethylene and propylene. The cost of this rubber roofing cost from $2.08-$3.16 depending on the quality of the product.
cool roofs
cool roofs help many building owners save alot of money while protecting the environment. Traditional dark roofs can reach up to 150 degrees fahrenheits in a hot summer day, but with the cool roof in the same condition, it corld stay at 50 degrees fahrenheits. cool roof can help lower energy bills by decreasing air conditioning needs. cool roof block sun's radiation when sunlight hits the roof, some heat is abosored by the roof and transferred to the building below and the heat is released at the other end of the house. cool roof cost differently when it deals with low-slope roof and steep-slope roof. low-slope roof cost about $0.75-$1.50 per square foot, and the steep slope cost about $1.50-$3.00 per square foot. "a california study found that cool roofs provide an average yearly net savings of almost 50 cents per square foot.

Material prices, a good source
http://www.cbmaterials.com/default.asp So this website contains products of all materials "MADE IN CALIFORNIA" and it looks like the company delivers items as well, now i just need the material list.

Structural Design
Some key basic structural information to consider:
- Loads on a structure:
- Loads on a structure:
- Gravity Loads: dead loads (permanent loads such as weight of the structure, flooring, etc.), live loads (loads that are not necessarily permanent, based on the use of the space), snow loads, rain loads
- Lateral Loads: wind loads, seismic loads
- Main parts of a structure
- Floor system: includes slabs and beams
- Supports: columns or walls (columns and walls take on increasing load as we go down a building, taking the most at the foundation)
- Foundation: shallow (mat or spread footing) and deep foundations (piles, drilled piers, etc.)
- Lateral system: concrete walls, braced frames resist seismic and wind forces (remember to balance/distribute the lateral system in building)
- Structural materials
- Concrete (reinforced concrete, precast concrete, etc.) - concrete is strong in compression and weak in tension
- Steel - preferred for longer spans with shallower framing
- Wood

More work to be Done!
Here are a list of items that need to be done over the course of the next two and a half weeks!
Architects To Do
Engineering To Do
Construction Team To Do
What a WEEK! Team 8 Comes through!
What week! Team 8 made a big jump!
We have floor plans! Thanks to all of you who showed up and worked! Thanks to all of your efforts we now have a working schematic plan. Here are a few of the images produced.

Monday February 17th.
Thanks to the students and mentors for coming out yesterday on Presidents Day. We made some great strides in developing our design.
We hope to see everyone here today through Friday. This is a big week since we only have less than 3 weeks before our competition entry is due. Please join us.
We will be be meeting everyday this week from 10 am to 4 pm here at DDC/SCA 1st Floor Conference Room on the SCA Side this time. See you here!

Notes from the Feb. 10 Presentation:
- Libraries are the only places that are an extension to people's homes
- Libraries are run by the government
- Some are more urban and some more suburban
- It feels like home because you can study, do work/play on the computer, but it is also different because there are activities for everyone
- Libraries belong to everyone in the community
- Library Revolution: no more central desk, much more comfortable and casual environment and it feels much more luxurious
- Librarians are no longer controlling everyone
- There are new functions of libraries that serve the entire community
- There are adult education centers, teen rooms, Sat. and Sun. programs, etc.
- Sitting areas in suburban ares (place to rest)
- New seating styles encourage interactions with other people at the library
- Lots of glass so people from the street may see inside
- New seating is by the glass
- New libraries are very open which makes them a public magnet
- Technology is very important
Soil Strata
Hello!I found some information on the soil strata in Bakersfield California.
National Cooperative Soil Survey
U.S.A.:
https://soilseries.sc.egov.usda.gov/OSD_Docs/B/BAKERSFIELD.html
Bakersfield soil is
- poorly drained
- artificially drained
- based in flood plain
- slow runoff
- mean annual precipitation is 6 inches
- mean annual temperature is 64 degrees F

I also found some pictures of the Central Valley we could use to inspire our designs.
Channels in the Sacramento-San Joaquin river delta snake through the heart of California's Central Valley.

Structural Engineering Intro
Hi Team,
The following link is for a intro to structural engineering book I used as an undergraduate in college. I uploaded it to my google drive. Its a good overview of basic structural engineering concepts and how structures and loads are idealized to make preliminary calculations. Please let me know if you have trouble accessing the link.

Have a great week.
