Description of first floor and chlidren's area

Sebastian Ortiz
The library will consist of a teen area, in the teen area there will computer stations with access to printers, there will also be OPAC computer system with OPAC printers. There also is soft seating areas and reading tables with chairs, youth counselor, sound studio, information and reference desks. In the teen area to would give teens a sense of being social and have access to many resources than they need and don’t need to wait for another person using that computer. In the staff lounge would be room that the staff would go relax for couple minutes. The circulation area people would enter the library and see where specific area that they want to go to. The mechanical, electrical, plumbing, trash recycling areas would rooms that the janitors would go and see that library is running smoothly. The walk off mat would be outside the building and lead to reading nooks or benches. In the work & bin room there would be the main documents and records on people that borrow books.
The second floor would consist of a children’s area. The children’s area has a story telling and soft seating area, picture books, hardcover and paperback books, for children to read but also feel comfortable while reading or listening to a story. In the area there is also OPAC computers, computer stations with printers. The children would also have access to the information and reference table where they could talk to the librarian and get help for what ever they need.

Design Process, (Thoughts?)

Design Process
Ace Team 8
Jonathan Tejeda

We came to our decision on the design of our library through a simple Design Process. We first began our design process by brainstorming. We listed key ideas that we all agreed upon and key points that we wanted to expand upon, such as whether we wanted our library to be made out of glass or the interior to be visible from the outside. Once we came to certain ideas and concepts we began narrowing things down and considering pros and cons of that idea for example making the building glass came with its pros and cons itself. The pros were, the interior would be visible from th outside drawing people inside the library, but the cons being vandalism. After we brainstormed and came to a mutual agreement as to what we wanted the library to be we began to charette, otherwise known as quick sketches used to come up with a design. Once we used the charette technique, we began narrowing our ideas down and incorporating the best ideas from the charette into our final design. Our final design was the result of the best ideas we came up with all bundled up into one floorplan

CONCEPT

Library as a seed.

It is endless.  But please post your thoughts.

The teams first attempt to replicate this organic structure as a brise soleil for our library.

Edith and Angela,  HELP!  We need this to be a self supporting structure that wraps our building entire building.  Structural Engineers, you're our only hope!  Please come to the rescue!

rubber roof

rubber roof( EPDM) is an extremely durable synthetic material widely use in low-slope buildings in the United States. rubber roofing is to prevent water leaking, prevents UV light from the sun. Rubber roofing can last up to 40 years. its made out of membranes ethylene and propylene. The cost of this rubber roofing cost from $2.08-$3.16 depending on the quality of the product.

cool roofs

cool roofs help many building owners save alot of money while protecting the environment. Traditional dark roofs can reach up to 150 degrees fahrenheits in a hot summer day, but with the cool roof in the same condition, it corld stay at 50 degrees fahrenheits. cool roof can help lower energy bills by decreasing air conditioning needs. cool roof block sun's radiation when sunlight hits the roof, some heat is abosored by the roof and transferred to the building below and the heat is released at the other end of the house. cool roof cost differently when it deals with low-slope roof and steep-slope roof. low-slope roof cost about $0.75-$1.50 per square foot, and the steep slope cost about $1.50-$3.00 per square foot. "a california study found that cool roofs provide an average yearly net savings of almost 50 cents per square foot.

Information of the rainscreen

(These are pictures of the Terracotta rainscreens) the advantage of the Terracotta Rainscreen system allows air to circulate behind the panels to provide pressure equalization, preventing water from being drawn into the building. Additionally, a vapor barrier on the outside face of the back-up wall acts as a final air and water barrier. The ventilated Terracotta Rainscreen system keeps your building dry and protected from the worst weather conditions without the use of grout or sealants and without any need for maintenance.
